      Grades K-3 In this level 1 reader from the A Healthy Life series (6 titles), the benefits of physical movement and exercise are explained to the younger set. Bright page backgrounds make white text boxes--in which one to three sentences are printed in a large, widely spaced font--pop. Each two-page spread features a full-page photo of a kid engaged in an activity, such as soccer, yoga, hiking, and bike riding. Some of the positive effects of exercise that are highlighted include strengthening one's muscles, improving one's ability to learn, and helping one to sleep better. Key concepts are periodically recapped in a little labeled photo strip, as with "Tools for Staying Active," which features three photos depicting drinking water, wearing "comfortable clothes," and playing "a favorite sport." A simple, informative primer.
