Mark Hammer's portrayal of Rostnikov brilliantly enhances the text. The inexorable pace Hammer chooses is perfect for the police inspector who believes "You catch more with patience than with speed." The interplay of recent and long-forgotten histories is narrated with the right amount of change in vocal pitch and cadence.
