Wang Ying (王英) grew up poor and learned ringing darts and speed from childhood. Zhou Kun (周昆) took him as a pupil. Bao Peisong (鲍佩松) recommended him and sent money to place him in Zhu Family Village (祝家庄). There he was treated as an ordinary soldier and scorned. To win merit he volunteered to seize Song Jiang (宋江). During a night attack he struck Li Kui (李逵) with a poisoned dart and was captured. Zhou Kun removed the poison and told him that stealing the estate map might atone for his offence. The village center was Laojun Hall (老君堂). It housed the estate's secret Wuji chart and was ringed by hidden pits and mechanisms. The master gave Wang Ying a small room and assigned an attendant named Zhu Shou (祝寿). In the third watch Wang Ying crept out with his ringing darts and an iron staff. He leapt the wall, dodged a volley of skyward crossbow bolts, and hauled himself into the courtyard. Huge oil lamps burned like daylight and the doors stood open. He moved toward the map and then triggered a spring board. Alarm bells rang and soldiers rushed in. He fought and ran through lanes and the White Grove, following a warned pattern to evade capture. He later slipped into an embroidered tower at the Hu Family Manor (扈家庄). Zhu Biao (祝彪) came with men and claimed he had seen a Liangshan (梁山) spy enter. Wang Ying hid behind screens but was discovered and seized on the stairs. He was bound to a column and the steward Hou Jian (侯见) readied brutal interrogation. Hu Sanniang (扈三娘) arrived and stopped the execution. She brought him into the hall and heard his confession. Wang Ying admitted he came from Liangshan and had been tricked into the Zhu estate to win merit. His tone was earnest and persuasive. Hu Sanniang felt both compassion and a desire for vengeance on the Zhu family. That night Jin Yuanwai (金员外) was murdered at Luofeng Slope. The bloody scene turned suspicion toward Wang Ying. Wounded, he later returned to Liangshan and told Song Jiang the full story. The leaders concluded the Zhu family had framed Liangshan. Hu Sanniang then led five hundred female soldiers and captured Yang Lin (杨林) and Yang Zhi (杨志). Wu Yong (吴用) devised an exchange. At the desolate swap Wang Ying feigned being bound and then slipped free amid the turmoil. The ruse rescued the two Yangs and averted disaster. These episodes mix daring raids, traps and fierce fights with rival loyalties and clever stratagems. Misunderstanding and loyalty propel the conflict and leave its consequences unresolved.
