Up-and-coming screenwriter Beatrix Noel's dream project is finally a reality—her 90s-era script is in production. Less dreamy is the A-list actor in the starring role—none other than Rocco Riziero, who jilted Beatrix on New Year's Eve back in 1999. Without his celebrity status, the project would likely still be withering on her hard drive, but that doesn't mean Beatrix won't shame him at every opportunity on-set—especially when it becomes painfully obvious he doesn't even remember her . . .
Boxed-in as a Hollywood pretty-boy, Rocco is thrilled to tackle a genuinely dramatic role. But he's perplexed about why the screenwriter treats him like a maggot. And awkward becomes irksome when their bickering results in a car crash right outside the famed Roxy Theatre on Sunset Boulevard—site of the New Year's Eve party where everything went wrong . . .
Shockingly, Beatrix, Rocco, and the car, are uninjured. The twist? They're clearly, truly, somehow, still in December, still on Sunset—but in 1999. Their mission? They'll have to work together to correct their old mistakes—which just might bring them closer than either expects . . .

Hollywood romance meets time travel in this rom-com from the husband-and-wife team of Kate and Danny Tamberelli. Narrators Mara Wilson and Danny Tamberelli portray Beatrix and Rocco, who are working on a film together. Suddenly, they find themselves catapulted 17 years into the past. Wilson's pleasant, emotive voice fits Beatrix as she works through complex emotions of grief and joy. Tamberelli's slightly nasal voice provides Rocco's point of view with a good mix of sincerity and comedy. As Rocco and Beatrix work together to understand their predicament and get back to the current year, they grow closer and take a road trip into the desert as Y2K begins. Lighthearted and nostalgic, this audiobook is a perfect road trip listen. C.R. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine

Screenwriter Beatrix Noel is delighted that her 1990s-era script is finally in production. The only irritation is that A-list actor Rocco Riziero has been cast in the starring role. Beatrix and Rocco have a rocky history, dating back to a disastrous New Year's Eve 1999. Now, while Beatrix remembers him all too well, Rocco doesn't recognize her at all. The story takes a magical turn when the two are involved in a car crash. Somehow, they are transported into the past, to that same fateful New Year's Eve. If they're to return to their own time, they'll have to work together and fix their past mistakes. Kate and Danny Tamberelli's follow-up novel to The First Date Prophecy is an entertaining romp through late-1990s and early-2000s pop culture, complete with fun mentions of Nickelodeon (Danny Tamberelli starred in Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete). Narrator Mara Wilson provides wonderful, animated depictions of the throwback scenes and a heartfelt rendering of the book's tender moments. As Wilson herself was a '90s icon, her presence here should delight those who grew up during the time. VERDICT A humorous and nostalgic rom-com for fans of Ashley Poston's The Seven Year Slip.--Elyssa Everling
