This full-cast performance of Dracula offers a new way to experience Bram Stoker's seminal vampire story, which follows Abraham Van Helsing's efforts to track down Lucy Seward after she becomes the victim of Count Dracula. Originally written by Irish playwright Hamilton Deane, this stage play was the first authorized adaptation of the 1897 epistolary novel Dracula. Beginning a tour in England in 1924, it was then revised by American writer John L. Balderstone for a Broadway production that opened in October, 1927, featuring Hungarian-American actor Bela Lugosi in his first English-language role. Balderstone's revision would become the basis of the 1931 film adaptation, also starring Lugosi. The play was revived in 1977, receiving the Tony Award for Best Revival and leading to the 1979 film, both starring Frank Langella.

Irish playwright Deane's adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic epistolary novel first hit the stage in 1924. Revised in 1927 by American writer Balderston, Deane's script became the only authorized version of Dracula and was the basis for a Broadway play and the iconic 1931 movie, both starring Bela Lugosi. It tells the story of vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing's desperate efforts to save Lucy Seward from becoming Count Dracula's next victim. In this version of the classic story, a talented full cast, including Qarie Marshall, Steve Wojtas, Sarab Kamoo, and Dez Walker, provides an immersive, atmospheric audio experience. The many narrators create the feeling of a vibrant theatrical production rather than a simple reading. At times, listeners may be taken out of the story when the play's own narrator offers commentary to set the scene, but these moments are easily overlooked once the story begins anew. VERDICT This dramatized adaptation of Stoker's classic tale is a perfect spooky listen for those seeking a new experience of the original novel. Recommended for any audio classics or horror collection.--Elyssa Everling
